Training Area Supervisor

Job Introduction

Landmarc Support Services currently require a Training Area Supervisor to work with the Team Manager to line manage a multi-disciplinary team ensuring they are motivated and engaged to deliver contractual requirements. 

Based at West Tofts Camp near Thetford you will join the team that collectively manage the 9,000ha of Breckland Estate, which makes up STANTA training area and ranges.

Main Responsibility

Assist the Team Manager in managing a team of people and being responsible for (but not limited to) managing performance, attendance, behaviour, capability, welfare, health and safety and record keeping.

 

Supervising day to day workloads of staff and ensuring work orders, PPM’s and all range management processes are completed on time

Task allocation and work checking

Assist the Team Manager in managing individual and team performance, as well as motivation and target setting

Assist the Team Manager in managing team skills and capability

Oversee the allocation and use of resources and equipment (plant, vehicles etc.)

Assist in the production of risk assessments and method statements

Record keeping (i.e. HR, Health and Safety etc.)

 

 

One of the key tasks will be to make sure that the Range and Training Areas are fit for purpose and that health and safety is at the forefront of everything we do, below is a list of day to day duties: 

 

Manage training area usage and carry out routine inspections to identify any maintenance tasks

Ensure the tasks identified, or requested, across the estate are completed to the required standards

Manage the correct completion of official range documentation in accordance with the regulations, either directly or through the teams

Manage range allocation, usage and bids

Assist with the management of any bought in services and contractors

Identify best practice and promote continuous improvement including environmental best practice and compliance

The Ideal Candidate

Knowledge of management theories and techniques and proven people management experience

Understanding of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and contractual requirements

Experience of communicating with customers

Knowledge of training area operating systems and Health and Safety, such as COSHH, manual handling, risk assessments and safe systems of work to IOSH Managing Safely level

Knowledge of workload scheduling and work order processes, preferably in a multi- tasking environment

Highly developed people management skills including providing feedback (both positive and constructive) to ensure the team are motivated and engaged

The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the Defence Training Area and the complexities that surrounds this

Range Management Qualification (RMQ) - desirable

Strong organisational skills

Works well under pressure, to a high standard

Able to deliver service to tight deadlines and appropriate quality standards

Ability to communicate clearly with people at all levels

Ability to drive continuous improvement

Ability to performance manage individuals, teams and outputs by utilising appraisal processes and other management tools

Willing to participate in on-call duties

Maintain up to date knowledge and full compliance with all essential training area and range operating systems or policies, including the Range Assignment Instructions, JSPs and other relevant operating instructions, or as instructed by the Team Manager (Training Areas).
