Job Introduction
Landmarc is a national facilities firm, which supports the Ministry of Defense (MOD) with military training on over 100 sites across the four nations of the UK. Landmarc manages almost 1% of the UK land area with over 70,000 hectares of nature conservation sites, 811 Scheduled Monuments, and extensive historic landscapes. The 2024/25 student placement programme will support Landmarc in the development and delivery of our new TESC contract with the MOD and the work of our placement students will be key in our aims of supporting safe, sustainable training solutions for the armed forces.
The Engineering and Assurance department within Landmarc has responsibility for developing the technical approach of the company, ensuring the activity undertaken across the built and rural estates addresses the business needs, and also assuring that this is undertaken consistently and in accordance with all required processes and procedures.
The successful placement student will have opportunities to support and learn from the team conducting this activity and will be joining at a particularly exciting time. The business has recently made the transition to a revised approach for conducting infrastructure Planned and Preventative Maintenance nationwide as well as complimenting this with an enhanced technical assurance and audit regime with far greater data analysis capability.
Additionally Landmarc are looking to achieve ISO55001 Asset Management certification within the next few years. Having developed a small Asset Management strategy team they and looking to expand their activity to obtain greater maturity in this field and the successful placement student will be supporting the development of resources and procedures.
The purpose of the role is to assist the Engineering and Assurance department to progress a number of key project during 2024 /2025.
This is a great opportunity for an engineering student from a building services/mechanical/electrical background to get involved with a wide range of projects which will leave a lasting legacy at Landmarc. The projects will be mainly in the technical assurance and asset management space, however there is some flexibility depending on the skills and aspirations of the successful candidate to work with design teams in project delivery.
To ensure that the successful candidate has a holistic approach of the business they will be expected to spend some period of their placement rotating around key functions / departments.
Main Responsibility
Duties of the role
This will be a hands-on role from the start with multiple learning opportunities along with time to consolidate learning and reflect on progress.
Gaining an understanding of the Landmarc business will be essential and the key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Supporting the Technical Assurance Manager with data and trend analysis
- Work with stakeholders and legislation changes to develop improved procedures for the delivery of Facilities Management with regards to statutory compliance in particular, the requirements for – Legionella, Asbestos, Electrical, Petroleum, Fire, DSEAR and Gas Safety Management
- Review existing procedures and propose improvements where relevant
- Develop an understanding of Safe Systems of Work carried out by Authorised Persons and implement improvements
- Support the Strategic Asset Manager to achieve the milestones of the Strategic Asset Management Plan

Prerequisites for role
- An engineering degree (Building Services or Mechanical/Electrical)
- Interest in Infrastructure Asset Management and Equipment Maintenance
- A good communicator who can articulate technical ideas to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Good IT and Data skills with an ability to develop technical reports and manipulate data to obtain insights.
Other information
In addition the successful candidate will be expected to undertake a limited amount of UK travel as project needs dictate.
The remote nature of some of the Landmarc sites and lack of public transport means that the successful candidate will need to access to their own transport.
Candidates must meet the UK residency requirements (5 years minimum) and successfully complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard. This is compulsory for all personnel who work for Landmarc Support Services Limited as Official Defence Contractors. This includes a Basic Police Disclosure, however, unspent convictions are not necessarily a bar to employment and will be reviewed case by case to ensure there are no risks to the security and integrity of the work completed by Landmarc Support Services Limited
