Job Introduction

ConTEXT and BACKGROUND

Landmarc is a national facilities provider, which supports the Ministry of Defense (MOD) with military training on over 100 sites across the four nations of the UK. Landmarc manages almost 1% of the UK land area with over 70,000 hectares of nature conservation sites, 811 Scheduled Monuments, and extensive historic landscapes. The 2024/25 student placement programme will support Landmarc in the development and delivery of our new TESC contract with the MOD and the work of our placement students will be key in our aims of supporting safe, sustainable training solutions for the armed forces.

North Region provide the operational delivery element to Landmarc services across all Northern MOD training sites, these include Wathgill, Warcop, Otterburn, Spadeadam, Strensall and Halton.  Key services include support to training area services, facilities management, asset management, preventative and reactive maintenance, rural services, project management, administrative services. 

Landmarc Corporate duties include to develop and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with all people both internal and external.

To ensure Landmarc meets the needs of our service users by working in flexibly and agreed manner.  This means everyone undertakes development and contributes towards continuous improvement and works in a way in which we are all willing to change our hours of work, tasks and locations, sometimes at short notice.

To be personally responsible for following all company policies including, but not limited to, Operating Procedures of the Company Health and Safety manual, Environment and Sustainable Development, Sustainable Procurement and Security.

 

Summary of the role

The purpose of the role is to assist the current Northern Rural Team in the day to day duties throughout the 2024 and 2025.

This is a great opportunity for a student who wishes to have an understanding of roles that are multi-skilled supporting activity across the rural estate on military training areas.

To ensure that the successful candidate has a holistic approach of the business they will be expected to spend some period of their placement rotating around key functions / departments.

 

Main Responsibility

 

Duties of the role

 

This will be a hands-on role from the start with multiple learning opportunities along with time to consolidate learning and reflect on progress.

 

Gaining an understanding of the Landmarc business will be essential and the key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Basic forestry and arborical work.
  • Preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Grounds maintenance.
  • Operation and maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Basic manufacturing and fabrication.
  • General housekeeping.
  • Equipment testing, calibrating, sustainability tasks.
  • To liaise with all stakeholders to ensure effective rural delivery.
  • To carry out additional works in response to additional contract requirements (Fee earning).

The following lists detail the ideal person to carry out this role and will be used as the selection criteria during the recruitment process:

 

  • Some experience of Knowledge of H&S such as COSHH, manual handling, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Experience of communicating with customers.
  • Work in a diverse multi-tasking mobile team environment.
  • Demonstrate proven track record of achieving objectives.
  • Ability to complete documentation, proven IT skills.
  • Undertake external labouring, caretaking and housekeeping skills.
  • Be vaccinated against work place risks; keep tetanus and polio vaccinations up to date, and participate in company instigated vaccination programmes where there is a recognized health risk in your role e.g. Hepatitis A and B’.
  • Willingness to undertake training to work in high risk areas e.g. transporting dangerous loads.

Prerequisites for role

 

  • Full driving licence valid in the United Kingdom.
  • Complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard – this is compulsory for all personnel who work for Landmarc Support Services Limited as Official Defence Contractors. This includes a Basic Police Disclosure, however, unspent convictions are not necessarily a bar to employment and will be reviewed case by case to ensure there are no risks to the security and integrity of the work completed by Landmarc Support Services Limited.
  • National Security Vetting may be required however you will be informed of this requirement during completion of the Baseline Personnel Security Standard.
  • Candidates must meet the UK residency requirements to undergo the above (5 years minimum).
  • Confident using technology such as tablets, laptops, etc.
