Are you passionate about conservation and rural management? We are looking for an experienced and dedicated individual to join our North, Regional Management Team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of Defence prime contracts across the region, providing detailed rural management, technical advice and strategic guidance related to the Rural Estate. You'll play a key role in bridging the gap between core delivery and billable works from a rural perspective.
The estate covers approx. 108k aces of Defence Training Estate land located in the North of England, stretching from Cumbria, Lancashire to Northumberland and down to North Yorkshire. The ground incorporates national parks, forests, woods, moorland as well as training estate land.
Main Responsibility
- Plan Management: Produce, review, update, and submit essential plans for agreement and signature, including the Integrated Rural Management Plan (IRMP), Rural Estate Task Schedule (RETS), Long Term Forestry Plan (LTFP), and Grounds Maintenance Plan (GMP).
- Forestry Initiatives: Act as the regional focal point for managing forestry harvesting and marketing initiatives. Collaborate with the Billable Works team, head office, and contractors to ensure effective delivery.
- Budget Management. Plan and manage the regional rural budget in line guidance and policy.
- Support and Delegation: Ensure all plans are delegated to regional delivery staff and managed to completion. Provide support for RETS, GMP, and the Snow and Ice Plan (S+I) management.
- Asset Maintenance: Assist with maintaining the Asset Register and GIS, and report monthly on statutory compliance of assets.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with natural and historic environmental plans and long-term forestry management plans.
- Income Generation: Identify opportunities for income generation and additional tasked works.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Liaise with all stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of the Rural Estate.
- Team Support: Be a responsible member of the regional management team, supporting other team members with activities such as investigations, auditing, training, report creation, and management information analysis.
- Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and support both regionally and nationally in relation to contract delivery.
- Work Review: Review works arising to ensure they are carried out by the most appropriate team, whether it be additional works, core contract, or reactive maintenance.
- Regional Travel: Travel throughout the North region to support the teams.
The Ideal Candidate
- Knowledge of Rural Estate Management gained through a Level 5 qualification such as NVQ in Agriculture, Forestry, Protected Sites/Species management or equivalent and proven experience
- Knowledge of nature conservation, woodland management and sustainability
- Comprehension of Health & Safety such as COSHH, manual handling, risk assessments and safe systems of work to IOSH Managing Safely level
- Knowledge gained through membership of an appropriate professional body
- Understanding of project work and the practicalities of delivery
- Able to ensure appropriate quality standards are adhered to across functions
