Job Introduction

Landmarc is a national facilities company , which supports the Ministry of Defense (MOD) with military training on over 100 sites across the four nations of the UK. Landmarc manages almost 1% of the UK land area with over 70,000 hectares of nature conservation sites, 811 Scheduled Monuments, and extensive historic landscapes. The 2024/25 student placement programme will support Landmarc in the development and delivery of our new TESC contract with the MOD and the work of our placement students will be key in our aims of supporting safe, sustainable training solutions for the armed forces.

The Sustainability Team at Landmarc has a national remit and responsibility for advising and guiding Landmarc work on all matters associated with Environment, Energy, Carbon-Net Zero, Sustainability and Social Value. The successful placement student will give support on many opportunities to focus on supporting the delivery of  Landmarc’s Social Value and Sustainability objectives as we work to define key programs for our new contract.

The priorities for 2024/2025 are to develop core programs and the monitoring mechanisms for our Social Value and Sustainability Strategy.

Potential areas the placement student will be focusing on include:

1)    Working to expand the Landmarc “Be the Difference” volunteering programme, support the delivery of volunteering events across the country and develop the monitoring mechanisms for volunteering activities.

2)    Work to support our regions in the development of community engagement action plans, including development of the plan templates and supporting the six Regions and Contract Support Office in creation of their plans and the mechanisms for them to be monitored.

3)    Delivery of a project to roll-out Social Value Metrics monitoring though a to be procured software package. The system will be the core tool used to drive the Social value programme though the business. 

4)    Support the Sustainability Team in core communications, audits, legal updates and site visits as the need arises.

5)    Development of communications from the project and project videos, which will be developed for our Teaching and Learning Centre.

 

 

Main Responsibility

The purpose of the role is to assist the Sustainability Team in the development, delivery and reporting of the new Landmarc Sustainability Strategy’s with a focus on the core elements relating to Social Value by developing and progressing a number of key projects during 2024 /2025. 

This is a great opportunity for a student with a Sustainability, Environment, Energy  Communications or Project Management background to get involved with a wide range of project areas.

Duties of the role

 

This role will involve implementation of strategy areas and delivering of projects relating to Sustainability and Social Value. The role includes learning opportunities along with time to consolidate learning and reflect on progress.

 

Gaining an understanding of the Landmarc business will be essential and the key responsibilities of this role will include:

 

  • Project development and delivery
  • Developing clear communications to the Landmarc teams
  • Negotiation with stakeholders across Landmarc
  • Identifying what monitoring data is available in Landmarc relating to Sustainability and Social Value and improving the process of gathering the data.
  • Supporting the Sustainability Teams core functions
  • Willingness to periodically travel to sites across the UK.
  • Create personal vlog for use on internal / external platforms

 

In each core project the placement student must think and ensure longevity e.g. ensure processes work and are embedded beyond the placement period.

The range of projects within the Sustainability Team represents an excellent opportunity for students to develop important employment skill sets.

Prerequisites for role

 

  • Demonstrable interest in all matters Environment, Sustainability Energy and Social Value

 

  • Some experience of delivering small projects or willingness to learn.

 

  • A good communicator and negotiator who can articulate strategy and process to the business.

 

  • Good IT Skills with a willingness to learn new packages including Office 360 and the Social Value monitoring solution. 

 

  • Good team player

 

  • A willingness to research and implement new ideas.

 

  • A willingness to engage in core sustainability work relating to Landmarc’s Environmental and Energy Management System including auditing and legal compliance implementation.

 

Other information

In addition the successful candidate will be expected to undertake a limited amount of UK travel as project needs dictate.

 

The remote nature of some of the Landmarc sites and lack of public transport means that the successful candidate will need to access to their own transport.

 

Candidates must meet the UK residency requirements (5 years minimum) and successfully complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard. This is compulsory for all personnel who work for Landmarc Support Services Limited as Official Defense Contractors. This includes a Basic Police Disclosure; however, unspent convictions are not necessarily a bar to employment and will be reviewed case by case to ensure there are no risks to the security and integrity of the work completed by Landmarc Support Services Limited
